Two weeks ago, the Connecticut Huskies had lost two in a row in Texas against Houston and SMU. Two weeks later, the Huskies have defeated Harvard, UCF, and Memphis. With wins against quality teams like Harvard and Memphis, the Huskies have built themselves an impressive resume for the NCAA tournament. With the win against the Tigers, UConn is now 14-3, and 3-3 in the American Athletic Conference. Despite the two wins, UConn has to keep winning games to become more relevant for the NCAA tournament picture.
Finally, the Huskies received an excellent stat-line outside of Shabazz Napier. DeAndre Daniels put together a great night for UConn. Daniels had 23 points and 11 rebounds. In fact, he did so by shooting only 15 shots. When his number was called upon, Daniels was there to produce for UConn. Besides Daniels, Napier had a double-double for the Huskies. With 17 points and 10 assists, it was clear that his presence was crucial for the Huskies.
UConn will not have much time to relax, as they will be heading home to play the Louisville Cardinals on Saturday. With a win against Louisville, the Huskies will most likely crack the top 25 again. Remember, a little more than a month ago, this UConn team was a fringe top-10 team. To keep winning basketball games, DeAndre Daniels or Ryan Boatright will need to continue step up alongside of Shabazz Napier. The Huskies have a special team this year, and they could make a case for a run in the NCAA tournament. The final four is in UConn’s headlights, now they must grind out wins and get there.
